Nearby is the wonderfully lively and fashionable town of La Rochelle and the Ile de Re. Pedestrianised shopping areas in the old town and a great choice of restaurants, cafes and bars make for a lovely day out.
Les Sables D’Olonne, well known for the start and finish of the round the solo world yacht race, is 30kms further along the coast. En route, you can stop for a visit to the Musee Auto De Vendée (car museum) or the horse racing track.
Glorious beaches, shops, restaurants and the harbour area provide plenty to do on a day trip. Further afield are the canals and waterways of the Marais Poitevin, along with its amazing wildlife.
Major attractions like Futuroscope and Puy du Fou are only an hour or so away. Added to that, there are many interesting historical towns, markets, shopping centres, châteaux, museums, zoos and aquariums to explore, as well as the wide range of golf, tennis and riding venues on offer.
The Vendée has a sunny climate equal to that of the South of France. This means the season extends from Easter to late October; with the monthly temperature in September averaging 70 degrees.
